Established at the current premises in 1890, restoration of an extension to the gallery comprises:
Construction of new gallery space and storage areas on the newly acquired site, a sculpture annex on the Rosalind Park boundary, and restoration of the period galleries.
Completion of the extension with an additional new permanent collection gallery, a two–storey administration and entry wing
to view street gardens designed by Tract Consultants Pty. Ltd.
Construction of the works on paper gallery, storage, loading dock, and a small restaurant funded by the Sidney Myer Foundation, now nearing completion.
The new galleries have been designed as flexible white box environments, indirectly lit from roof-top light scoops, counter-
pointing the ornate environments of the period galleries.
