This project includes the adaptive reuse and refurbishment of the landmark 20th century Grosvenor House Mansion, designed by the prominent architect Sir Edwin Lutyens in the 1920s, to create ‘hotel residences’ operated by the exclusive Jumeirah Living brand.
Led by Design Director, Earle Arney, new life was breathed into this historic Park Lane address and previously derelict building that had lain dormant for nearly a decade, by unlocking its full commercial development value and potential of this significant building.
The core values of this project were re-use and architectural resuscitation, and creating a classic British design narrative, leveraging a deep understanding of the site and the history of its previous uses.
The new architectural elements re-interpret devices and forms from traditional English mansion typology and those used by Lutyens, to create a contemporary luxury long-stay apartments.
A new courtyard space was created in the heart of the development from a previously a disused and unloved light well. An over-scaled substantial fireplace is the centrepiece of the new public garden conservatory, which employs scaling and feathered edge elements common in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace.
The development also activates four existing street frontages within the historic fabric of Mayfair, London. The result is a beautiful 5-Star hotel aligned to contemporary guest standards and expectations, showcasing its bright and vibrant history.
